What moves you?

July 28, 2008 by currentword

What moves you?  If you are a believer, something radical has happened.  The transforming power of God’s love has flooded your soul.  How did God accomplish this?  Through the cross of Christ.  He sent His only son to pay the penalty of our sin.  We all know we are sinners, we all know we fall way short of the standards set forth in scripture.

Please don’t put the death and resurrection into a once a year sermon you expect to hear on Easter.  Do we really realize how enormous the Love of God is?

Many times we get caught up in the idea that once we are saved, we should just focus on reinventing our lives, trying to get our self esteem up, to feel good about ourselves.  We leave the love of God for a self help gospel.  I tried it myself, and it didn’t work.

I am more moved by the good news of the gospel than ever before, 11 years 7 months after my first contact with the forgiving power of the blood of Christ.  Why?  Because I see souls!

How can we consume this great gift of life that goes into eternity by spending our lives for ourselves!

I have spent much time preaching the great commission, pure and simple.  People do not want to hear about their divine privilege and responsibility to be a witness to the cross of Christ.
If you aren’t moved by the need of souls for Christ and you call yourself a Christian, I beg you, by the grace of God, die to yourself!  Read the gospels like it is the first time you have laid eyes on those holy pages.  We desperately need revival because we are losing souls every day.  Every day they slip into eternity.  Can we afford to receive the grace of God in vain?
I ask again, what moves you?

The dust of life

April 24, 2008 by currentword

Have you checked in on your dreams lately?  How are they doing?  Are they closer on the horizon, or taking form in your world?  All of us have dreams, things we want to accomplish in life.  I am going after the vision that God put in my heart.  I have noticed that life happens during the pursuit.  What do I mean by that?  Cars break down, bills stack up, garbage has to go out, diapers need to be changed.  The responsibility of normal life can totally take over at times.  One tough day can turn into a tough week, or even a month and it can spiral into years.  The tsunami of life can try to suck you under and drown your dreams.  I believe it is one of the most tragic things in life, to completely lose touch with your dreams.  How do we stay focused when life can be such a bully?

The fact is that life can eat your dreams quickly.  One wrong decision, one slight detour, one sin, one accident, one betrayal… it fades to black.

Can you see your dreams?  Did they die?  Were they abandoned in frustration and anger or hopelessness?

You might say-It can be painful to go down this road.  Pastor, I have to move on, I haven’t got time for the pain.  Why torment me with this journey into my soul?  I am just trying to make the most out of what I have.

That is great, but one last question, do you know what you have?  Because one of the great tragedies of disappointment is that you lose touch with your resources.

A negative attitude will never open the door of opportunity in your life.  A negative attitude stifles ingenuity, creativity, and forward momentum.  When your focus is on why things won’t work, you have lost the battle.  I have good news for you!

It doesn’t matter where you find yourself now.  In the Bible, I find something, the words “But God”.

Ephesians 2:4  “But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ”.

You have a divine destiny, a purpose to fulfill.  Forgive yourself, let God make you alive again!  Receive God’s love and forgiveness fresh into your world!  He will resurrect your dreams and bury your pain!  Your dreams can live again!  The Father’s love can literally cause you to rise above your failure, and propel you into your destiny.  Walk close to Him, He has abundant life for you!  Let the truth set you free, let it explode on the inside of you!  It will blast away all the dust of life.

Resist!

March 6, 2008 by currentword

Given the clear direction our nation is taking as far as values, politics, and world views, it has become crystal clear that a response is required from those who call upon the Lord with pure heart.  If you look at what our nation sees as far as ministry, it is understandable how we seem to have been minimized.  It is either a happy, Prozac message, or a message that more resembles a infomercial for quick financial gain, or even an Oprah like approach with high gloss and inspiration with no anointing.  The fact remains, that God’s incredible message of hope, transformation and power is at the forefront of mankind’s needs.  That good news is available to all people, but there is only one way to get it, through the cross.  As a believer, it is important to never minimize the cross, even though you move beyond it.  We go from death to life, and as a child of God, you are now a new breed of human.  You have a spirit that is alive to God.  There is nobody like you on the face of the planet.  No human who has not received Christ has a spirit alive to God.  That your spirit has been made alive, and literally joined with God’s spirit causes you to become an overcomer.  With an overcoming spirit, comes a responsibility to God, your family, and the world.  We have become aggressive Christians.  What does that mean?

The enemy has done a work on the American church.  Sin, which is missing God’s standard is the norm now.  In the world, sin is the norm, because they have not been given power over it, but we have been given power over it!  We are no longer slaves to our sinful nature, we are free to walk in the Spirit of God!  We have been empowered by grace and truth, and with our spirit alive to God, we have access to all of heavens resources.

The Bible says this in James, “submit yourselves therefore to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you”.  Did you hear that?  We can put the devil on the run.  This applies not only to our lives, but to everyone in our world.  If we walk as we should as believers, after the Spirit, we will have an overcoming aggressive attitude toward the works of darkness.  We are to resist him, steadfast in our faith.  You, are a victorious warrior, equipped with power and love from God.  Our nations only hope is not the right candidate, not an economic upturn, not a solution to universal healthcare, not another positive feel good attitude message that ignores our problems.  The hope for our nation is that God’s people would walk in the power of the Holy Spirit, and refuse to sin, refuse to dishonor the name of Jesus, and be bold about the free gift of salvation given to us.  We need to get our fight back!  Fight for our families, fight for our children’s future, pray for fearless leadership, fight for our emotions to be healed.  Be aggressive and resist the devil!

Ryan & Stephanie Giles (The Flow?)

February 24, 2008 by currentword

ryan-giles-003.jpgCommisioning and impartation for the call! Our dear friends Ryan and Stephanie Giles, were ordained into ministry this morning by Rodney Howard-Browne. They are moving from Florida to Flagstaff, Arizona to start a church. We met Ryan and Stephanie back in 1998 at Bible school in Tampa. They are a couple with a red hot passion for Jesus and for the harvest! They are a sister church of Current, and we are so proud of them! It is a major move to step out like this. Ryan and Stephanie have 3 children; Melody, Luke and Destiny and are planting a church with nothing but a word from the Lord. I am not sure if they have settled on the church name, but I believe it is “Flow”. They walk in the anointing and honor the move of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Let’s stand with our faith and prayers in this season of their lives. We love you!

The presence of God

February 13, 2008 by currentword

Moses told the Lord, “if your presence does not go with us, don’t send us, for how can the world know that we are different than anyone else, except your presence goes with us”?  This passage of scripture is found in Exodus the 34th chapter.  In the book of Psalms, you will find that it stated that Moses knew God’s ways, when Israel only knew His acts.  Moses went up the mountain of God, and the children of Israel were satisfied with a golden calf.

Why are we so satisfied with so much less than what God wants to give us?  Why is it that we would rather keep a “safe” distance from God than draw near?  As a believer, you have been granted access to come into the presence of God!  He wants to calm the storms of life, give you rest for your souls, and infuse you with life, vision and passion.

It is vital today that believers experience the presence of God.  Many times in a meeting, the presence of God has been so strong, and I was dumbfounded that so many people couldn’t even access what God was giving out.  Their minds were elsewhere, their spirits were polluted with cares and fears and wrong attitudes.  My friends, are you missing out on what your Father in heaven is wanting you to experience?  The scripture tells us that the Kingdom of God is righteousness peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.  If you meditate on that truth, you realize it is an experiential truth.

When you pray, when you open up God’s word to you, when you go to church, when you drive, when you work, God wants you to literally experience His presence!  It will give you peace!  It will give you joy, it will cause you to rest!  If you struggle with experiencing these virtues, my friend, you are living below the Kingdom’s provisions for your life.

If you want to enjoy the  presence of a loving heavenly Father in your life, pray this prayer with me.

Father, in Jesus name, I need you!  Search my heart, I give you total access to all that I am.  If I have fallen short of walking in the grace you gave me for my life, I repent, please show me and lead me into the truth by the Spirit of grace.  I refuse to live in sin, walk in fear and to fill my life with uncertainty when you have spoken clearly to me.  You told me you love me and have a special place for me in your Kingdom.  Because of your incredible mercy, I ask you to restore unto me the joy of my salvation, set my feet in your paths and strengthen my resolve to fight the good fight of faith.  Father I believe your word.  I thank you for the provision of your Spirit.  I declare that you are everything I need.  I come boldly to your throne as your child.  Thank you for receiving me!   Teach me to live in the rest of your presence!  Amen.

You have been granted access to God’s presence, because He loves you and wants you to be with Him!

Miracle Service this Friday!

February 6, 2008 by currentword

We are having a miracle service Friday February 8th.  We meet at 7pm at 2407 SE 49th on the corner of 49th and Division.  Father has us on a journey of recovering the ministry of the believer.  Miracles and healing are supposed to be the normal experience of the believer.  Scripture says signs and wonders follow those who believe.  We are not looking for signs, we are walking in the Kingdom and the Holy Spirit confirms the gospel when declared.  Paul said his message was not in words, but of the demonstration of the Spirit and power.  We need to recover the gospel as Jesus presented it to us.  If you need healing in your body, come, Jesus will heal you!

Jesus is a healer!

Open Heavens

January 31, 2008 by currentword

To get people to see Jesus as he really is, that is the challenge of the church today.  Many of the messages the Lord has been giving me are for the greater body of Christ.  They are prophetic in nature.  In Charismatic circles, the prophetic is seen as people with a gift to see into the future of an individual, church, region or nation.  While I totally believe that the Lord does move that way, I don’t believe that is the core of prophetic preaching.  I believe with all of my heart that prophetic preaching puts the focus on Jesus Christ above all else, in other words, the result is returning to the heart of God and His purposes.  Recently, I ministered on “open heavens”.  The biblical reality of the age we live in is simple, we live in an open heavens atmosphere!  What does that mean?  It means we are living in the days of the Holy Spirit on the earth.  Jesus prayed to the Father to send the Holy Spirit to earth, and the Holy Spirit is being poured out upon the earth.  This is the most unique period of history in all of mankind.  After Christ ascended, He gave gifts to men.  The heavens were opened.  We are living in the times of the harvest.  The heavens never closed.

I truly believe many of the prophetic voices today have a heart to see people on fire for God.  I believe they want what God wants, to see people exalting Jesus in life.  My heart is for the body of Christ to run out of excuses for being powerless, and return to the mighty filling of the Holy Spirit!  While I don’t enjoy conflict in my natural man, the Holy Spirit inside of me compels me to confront strongholds in the hearts of His people that block the true life of God from flowing.

One of the major excuses I have seen in the lives of believers that contend for the greater outpouring is this open/closed heavens idea.  It is actually preached as though it was absolute truth.   I hear prophecies from influential ministries declaring that the heavens were previously closed and now are open over certain areas.  They aren’t talking about before Christ, they are talking about the recent history.

Then we try to figure out why the Holy Spirit isn’t moving, and instead of getting a fresh baptism of the Holy Spirit and fire, they go through all these routines.  I will spare you the embarrasment of details, but it really is sad.

Salvation is a total gift from God.  The Holy Spirit is a total gift from God.  The move of God’s Spirit is available today, in any part of planet earth.  There is no such thing as a closed heaven.  God is looking for hungry and thirsty people to draw near to Him and be set ablaze for Jesus.

We make it as though God needs to do something for revival to break out.  God wants to move, but only on what He did already!  Jesus said, “it is finished”.  The only unfinished business we have is to believe God and move with Him!

Revival is not withheld because we have some principality overpowering the Holy Spirit of God from doing what He wants!  Can you see how ridiculous that is?  Revival is withheld because we aren’t hungry for God.  We are satisfied.  We don’t want the reproach of the gospel, we get religious and allow our flesh to dominate us.  We get stuck in the mindset of the world and don’t live by faith.

Please understand, I do believe that great men and women of God can carry revival in their lives and break open an atmosphere because they walk in the power of the Holy Spirit.  What they should preach is that this is available to anyone who will yield to the Spirit of God.

It doesn’t matter how sinful an area is, how dark.  If you walk with Jesus and are empowered by His Spirit, you are a living revival!  We need our churches to live in this reality in order to shake our world.  We cannot live waiting for God to do something!

John G Lake understood this.  He knew wherever he went, God was going to move.  God will pour out His Spirit on all flesh.  Jesus told us to go throughout the whole earth.  That means anywhere on earth, you can see God move if you are a believer!

If we can get this, we can move into the greatest harvest of souls the world has ever seen.  The Holy Spirit is still the missing link in the body of Christ.  We have to walk in His power!  The more we learn to yield to the Spirit of God, the greater flow we will have in our lives.

Let’s guard our hearts from cheapening what Jesus gave us.
